Earn as you learn on an innovative and practical route to a career in accountancy

What is the HLA in Accountancy?

The HLA in Accountancy is a Level 5 Apprenticeship which leads to the Diploma for Accounting Technicians.

It is a modern and practical route to a career in accountancy where employers hire apprentices on a two-year, work-based learning programme.

You will join a 10,000-strong Community of Practice on the island of Ireland and you will emerge with the professional values and technical competencies that define the role of an accounting technician.

You will study one day a week at a Regional College, and put the skills and theory you learn into practice in the workplace.

You will be mentored by experienced accountants in the workplace and lecturers in the college. Your workplace learning is documented throughout the programme and exams are held in May each year.

Upon successful completion of the programme, you are eligible to apply for full membership of ATI, the leading body for accounting technicians in Ireland, and enjoy strong support as you progress through your career.

To be considered for the HLA in Accountancy, you must:

The application process

First, choose the Regional College where you would like to study, complete their online application form and submit it with a CV and a 500-word personal statement explaining why you would like to participate in the programme.

The Regional College will screen your application, and if you meet the eligibility and entry criteria, your CV and personal statements will be passed on to potential employers.

Employers then review your application, draw up a shortlist of candidates for interview, and contact the Regional College with their list.

Candidates are invited to interview with the employer, and offers (or provisional offers, depending on results) are made to successful candidates.
